ACCESSIBILITY

Is Monarch handicap accessible?

Although initially, as a deeded ownership timeshare property, Monarch had not been required to retrofit villas and facilities to fully meet ADA Building Codes and State Standards, the Board of Directors and our Management Team nevertheless wanted to improve accessibility at Monarch, wherever economically feasible, to better serve owners and guests. Small changes and improvements were introduced over the years, and whenever major repair or construction work was done, ADA compliance was always taken into consideration. Some of the accessibility features incorporated into the property included: • hard surface walkway/ramp access to all buildings, beach, sundeck, and other areas • walkway "bumpers" alongside the upper lagoon bridge • lobby check-in area with lowered counter • pool lift for assistance in getting into and out of pools and spas • beach mat to enable wheelchairs to cross the soft dune sand • beach wheelchair with oversized wheels to roll easily on sand (check-out at Natures Pedal) • grab bars in all bathrooms • comfort height toilets • large, roll-in showers (in ADA villas only) • shower seats (available on request) Seven of our float-time villas meet ADA standards, giving our management team the flexibility to accommodate accessibility requests. These units have wider bathroom doorways, showers configured for side entry, and lowered master bathroom sinks with openings for a wheelchair. The kitchen counters are lowered to the 32" standard, and the kitchens offer appliances with front controls and a reach-in pantry instead of upper cabinets.

Owners who wish to request an accessible unit should contact the Monarch front desk at least two weeks prior to arrival.

ACTIVITES

How can I reserve golf or tennis times in advance?

GOLF: Inquire in the Monarch lobby or call the MVCI.

TENNIS: Monarch's tennis program is offered through the Sea Pines Racquet Club, a "premier resource for enthusiasts of the game, featuring 20 clay courts and award-winning instructional programs," conveniently located on Lighthouse Lane. Monarch owners and guests can receive 2 hours of complimentary court time per day by calling 843-363-4495 24 hours (one day) in advance to reserve a court and time.

Please note that this activity information is believed to be current, but our program does change from time to time, according to season, demand, availability, and special opportunities. What do I need to remember as I’m planning my week You can help ensure the excellence of your Monarch vacation by doing some advance planning.

What are the Pool & Hot Tub Rules?

  • Babies and toddlers who are not reliably toilet trained are STRONGLY urged to use ONLY the SplashPad area and NOT the adult pools or hot tubs, since "accidents" will cause the closing of the pools for a minimum of 24 hours while re-filtering and shocking of the water is done. This is a major catastrophe for our vacationing guests, so PLEASE do not risk this.

  • All babies and toddlers are absolutely required to wear approved waterproof swim diapers while using any of the pool facilities. Regular diapers or pull-ups are not permitted. Swim diapers may be purchased at the Marketplace in the lobby.

  • Children under twelve years of age using any swimming pool, hot tub, or other recreational facility must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult. Unattended children may be asked to leave the premises if they are in the pool or violating any rule relating to the use of the pools and/or hot tubs.
  • All users of the pools and hot tubs do so at their own risk. All users must obey the posted rules and comply with local and state ordinances. No diving is allowed.
  • Safety flotation devices are allowed in the pools; however, no large flotation toys, rafts, or chairs may be put in any of the pools. Please CLICK HERE to see Monarch's Flotation Device Guidelines.
  • Any pool deck chair left unattended for 45 minutes will be considered vacant, and items left on or around the chair will be taken to Lost & Found in the Monarch lobby.
  • Glass containers are strictly prohibited near the pool areas, including all pool decks.
  • The pool and spa are closed sunset to sunrise.

PLANNING YOUR TRIP

You can help ensure the excellence of your Monarch vacation by doing some advance planning.

Special Requests - If you have special villa requests, place them on-line by responding to the Vacation Experience Planner that will be emailed to you before your arrival. However, if we don't have your email address, we can't send you the Planner, so you will need to call the Front Desk at 843-363-3040, two weeks prior to arrival. The MVCI team will try their best to meet your requests, although it will not always be possible for them to do so.

What To Bring?

  • Condiments (e.g. salt, pepper, spices, sugar)
  • Kitchen staples (e.g. cooking oil, mayo, butter)
  • Wraps (foil, plastic)
  • Extra dishwasher detergent and dishwashing liquid
  • Extra coffee filters
  • Paper plates and disposable cups for between-meal needs, to reduce your chore time on vacation!
  • Laundry detergent
  • Personal toiletries
  • Beach towels (The supplied pool towels may not be large enough for beach lounging and are not replaced during the week)
  • Sunscreen (of course) plus insect repellent if you plan to visit any of the nature preserves

How can I receive mail?

Contact Info - If you will be receiving mail during your stay, have it directed to: Monarch at Sea Pines 91 N. Sea Pines Drive Hilton Head Island, SC 29928

It would be most helpful if the name on the package received had the name of the guest used for checkin purposes, and the villa number. If you need to leave a phone number where you can be reached during your stay, it is 843-363-3040. The resort fax number is 843-671-2441.

When/where is check-in? When/where is check-out?

Check-in at Monarch is after 4:00 p.m. on the Saturday or other day of your arrival in the Monarch lobby. For Monarch owners using their owned week, your weekly Sea Pines gate pass to get into Sea Pines Plantation can be picked up at the Sea Pines Welcome Center, located at 32 Greenwood Drive, just before the Greenwood gate. Follow signs to the "Guest Pass Window" around the back of the building. Once you have picked up your Sea Pines pass, drive to Monarch, where the gate attendant at the entry to the property will direct you to park in front of your assigned villa.

If you know that you will be arriving at Monarch late for your vacation week or will be checking out early, please give us notice so that Housekeeping can work more efficiently. With such a small window of time to prepare the villas, it helps tremendously to know which occupants won't show up until later Saturday evening or even the next day. And if you are leaving early, even by as little as an hour, Housekeeping can get a much-needed start on cleaning your villa if you will let them know. Call the lobby at 843-363-3040 to report these opportunities. And please also use the hang tag for the front door to let Housekeeping know when you have indeed departed. It is not necessary to return to the lobby for check-out; villa keys may be dropped into the Key Return kiosks near each building's elevator on the ground floor. All villa occupants must be out of the units and have the villas completely clear of all possessions by 10:00 a.m. on the Saturday departure day. Occupants who are not checked out by 10:00 a.m. will be charged a late check-out fee of $100.00 per hour beyond 10:00 a.m.

Can I bring my pet?

"Service animals are allowed at Monarch. However, family pets of any species, to include emotional, therapy, and protection pets, are not permitted in any Monarch villa or elsewhere on the property. A $500 penalty fee will be charged for any violations, attached to the bill at check-out."

Please note that The Americans with Disabilities Act says that a service animal must be trained specifically for a person with a disability. That means it can’t be a general-purpose assistance dog, but rather it must be trained specifically for one person who has a disability that rises to a level that the Americans with Disabilities Act considers a disability. Passing off a pet as a service animal not only goes against the federal Americans with Disabilities Act, but is also a state crime in several states. Service animals at Monarch must accompany "their" person at all times, and not be left unattended in the villas. Click here for the Monarch Service Dogs FAQ.

Can I smoke?

"Smoking is prohibited everywhere on the Monarch in Sea Pines property, including within the units and on individual patios and balconies, except where designated by the management company, as may be changed from time to time in the sole discretion of the management company*. The term "smoking" includes electronic cigarettes, vaporizers and other alternative nicotine products. Failure to comply with this non-smoking policy by a registered occupant or his/her guest will result in a $250 cleaning fee, which will be a personal charge assessed to the registered occupant."

*There is a smoking gazebo located by the Azalea building, at the end of the parking lot.

The No Smoking policy was amended by the Board November 2015.

PARKING

Can I bring a second car? Can we get designated parking spaces?

Unfortunately, we can only allocate one designated parking space per villa.

Parking has always been one of Monarch's biggest challenges. We have only 152 parking slots, including 6 handicap spaces, to accommodate 122 villas. Because of the property layout, some of the spots are located near the villas but other spots are further away. For example, the Magnolia (3500) building has 27 villas but only 5 parking spots nearby, and Azalea (3800) has 38 villas but only 20 parking slots in front.

Over the years, we've explored many different scenarios to try to alleviate our parking crunch, but our only fair and equitable way to allocate parking spaces is to rely on owners and guests to be courteous and compliant with our parking rules:

  1. The 122 spaces closest to the buildings are now designated as Primary parking and WE WILL ISSUE ONLY ONE PRIMARY PARKING PASS PER VILLA. The specific parking spaces are not numbered, so are available first-come, first-served to any car displaying a Primary parking permit. Cars that are improperly parked in a Primary spot without a Primary parking permit will be ticketed and required to be moved. After two warning tickets, a third violation will incur a $250 fine per occurrence, which will be a personal charge assessed against the credit card on file for the registered occupant.

  2. Owners or guests who choose to bring a second car may request one Overflow parking permit, usable in the remaining few spaces located in the horseshoe shaped area at the back of our lot. These spaces are also available first-come, first-served.

  3. PARKING PRIVILEGES WILL NOT BE EXTENDED TO MORE THAN TWO CARS PER VILLA. Click here for the Monarch Parking Letter.
  4. If you are able bodied, please leave the spots nearest the handicap ramps for those owners and guests with mobility challenges.
  1. If you seldom use your car during your week, please unload near the building then park it in one of the Primary spots toward the back of the lot rather than occupying one of the closer spots.

  2. Display your Monarch parking pass on your dash at all times! Cars without a Monarch pass are subject to towing.

  3. Parking in fire lanes is strictly prohibited and subject to towing.

  4. Overnight parking is available in the Sea Pines Beach Club next door to Monarch. This is restricted to Monarch residents with valid Monarch parking passes on display, beginning at 8:00 p.m. Cars MUST be removed from the Beach Club lot by 9:00 a.m. or are subject to being towed.

Posted on behalf of Sea Pines Plantation in regard to Sea Pines passes: "All passes, decals and/or other access mechanisms are and remain the property of Sea Pines Security – CSA. You may not copy, scan, modify, reproduce, publish, republish, upload, distribute, transmit, display, create or in any way exploit this pass or any part of the pass, including, date, text, content or use for any other purpose. Such use is expressly prohibited by law and will result in civil and criminal penalties. Violators will be prosecuted to the maximum extent possible."

  1. If you have brought a second car and the Overflow parking spaces are full, you may park in the parking lot near the Greenwood Gate into Sea Pines Plantation and either take the free trolley to the Sea Pines Beach Club (summer season only) or have someone else in your party pick you up with your Primary car. Parking in the Greenwood Gate lot is free and throughout the week, including overnight.

  2. Shuttle service is available Monday - Friday, in season to the Greenwood Gate lots and/or Harbourtown. Available upon request (Memorial Day - Labor Day).

The Monarch Board and our management team sincerely regret the inconvenience that we know parking causes.

OTHER

Is there recycling at Monarch?

There are small blue recycling bins in each villa laundry room and large beige ones scattered around the property. The bins from the villas may be emptied at the designated recycling areas located between the Azalea and Camellia buildings and between the Magnolia and Dogwood buildings. The recycling program accepts glass, plastic and aluminum, which may be placed co-mingled into the recycling dumpsters. Cardboard is in a spearate container.

Can I use the Monarch facilities at times other than my ownership week?

Owners' use of the Monarch property and facilities is limited to the period of occupancy each year. Owners who offer their weeks for rent or exchange will not be entitled to use the property or facilities during the ownership week. There are no local or day pass privileges provided.

Unfortunately, Monarch simply does not have the capacity (especially parking, but the other facilities as well) to handle the potential volume of people if any Monarch owner could use the facilities at any time. Since we have over 5000 owners, and each owner could have several accompanying family members or guests, if even a very tiny proportion of owners wanted to exercise this option, there would be noticeable strain on the facilities, which would not be fair to the owners of that occupancy week. Such a scenario would also bring increased challenges for Security to try to control the property or verify the legitimacy of folks on site.
